BB King Statue

BB King Statue, Detail

BB King Statue
This is the statue of blues legend BB King in the Memphis Visitors' Welcome Center on Riverside Drive in Downtown Memphis. I love the detail in this statue and think that it's a wonderful likeness of Mr. King. He has a blues club here in Memphis on Beale Street, which I shared here last month.

I have to admit that I had never visited our Visitors' Center before today (typical city "native", right? :), and it is quite nice. The Center has wonderful views of the Mississippi River, Mud Island, the M Bridge, and lots of information about fun and interesting places to visit in Memphis and throughout Tennessee.

Hi SouthernHeart,

What a wonderful musician, one I never tire of hearing. His music has been a huge part of my life for almost 40 years now. When my daughter was new I listened, over and over again, to his records, especially to the song, Hummingbird. I think it became my anthem of love to my daughter who meant then, and still does, the world to me. Do you know this one?
_____
Sometimes I get impatient
but she cools me without words
and she comes so sweet and so plain
my hummingbird and have you heard
that I thought my life had ended
but I find that it’s just begun
cause she gets me where I live
I’ll give all I have to give
I’m talking about that hummingbird
oh she’s little and she loves me
too much for words to say
when I see her in the morning sleeping
she’s little and she loves me
to my lucky day
hummingbird don’t fly away

When I’m feeling wild and lonesome
she knows the words to say
and she gives me a little understanding
in her special way
and I just have to say
in my life I loved a woman
because she’s more than I deserve
and she gets me where I live
I’ll give all I have to give
I’m talking about that hummingbird
oh she’s little and she loves me
too much for words to say
when I see her in the morning sleeping
she’s little and she loves me
to my lucky day
hummingbird don’t fly away

How cool is that?!?! And I notice the Elvis Presley statue on the right column next to the BB King photos.

You guys are so lucky to have TWO music icons in Tennessee.

I saw B.B. King in Fort Smith about 20 years ago. One of the best I've even seen!

Love this statue. it's absolutely 'got' him.

Great tulip and blossom photos recently. Spring is obviously really with you in Memphis!
