Hedgemoor Classic
This lovely classic home is in the Hedgemoor neighborhood of east Memphis, near Walnut Grove and Goodlett and across from the Galloway Golf Course. This is one of our favorite neighborhoods for both the architecture and the beautiful gardens.
This beautiful residence is also the childhood home of fellow blogger Auto Ethnographer...I hope that you enjoyed seeing these photos as much as I did visiting the neighborhood and taking them.
Thanks so much to all of you for the good wishes on the NCAA Championship game....it was a close one, and a heartbreaker! I hope that my voice returns before work tomorrow...

Your photos and this post is just perfect.
I had a dream about Memphis last night and well....
Find out why their mommas swooned looking at the pictures, and stuffed crisp $10,000.00 bills into my shorts and hung the keys to a Smart car on my ear. Abraham Lincoln in Brookville, Ohio.
It was a very exciting game. I am sorry your team did not come out on top, but they are still winners.
My best friend, from Memphis, was so excited about the game - dammit, they lost but so close it seems.
This is a beautiful home. Interesting to read it's the childhood home of a fellow blogger.
What a wonderful place to have grown up. That looks like just a lovely house.
Thank you so much for this! I had forgotten the name of the neighborhood, Hedgemoor. Wow. I see that the magnolia is still there; we used to climb up and around in that tree like little monkeys--having to be pried out of it when dinner rolled around. It was a fantastic house to grow up in. The back side of the house is on a slope and contains a full basement with garage, a huge den with an equally massive fireplace, a sewing room, and a laundry room. This was our indoor play area; my parents let us skate in one of the hallways down there, which made our house pretty popular with our friends. My three brothers slept on the upper floor, each one of their beds positioned beside one of those upper windows. Our more elderly neighbors across the street had been art collectors and dealers. Everyone in the neighborhood called their house "the hotel," because it was a mid-century modern with an elevator and amazing swimming pool. They had lavish grown-up parties (probably fund-raisers), the comings and goings of which we all watched in awe. The people we bought our house from were the Thorntons. I am pretty sure they were the original builders. They would be as happy as I am to see that so much of the original grounds and house have been preserved. Thanks again for bringing back all these wonderful childhood memories!!
Nice looking house. Is that a giant magnolia in the front yard? I bet it's really pretty in blooming season.
A gorgeous home, Andrea. One I would love to live in.
Pat
