Herb Parsons Lake

Since today was so clear and pretty and not too cold, my hubby and I visited one of our favorite picnic spots, Herb Parsons Lake, which is just outside Memphis and Collierville. It is a 177-acre public lake that is primarily for fishing (no skiing, sailing or swimming), although I have seen the occasional kayak in the water there, too. This is just the type of small lake that makes me want to get into a canoe and take a leisurely ride through the water, exploring all of the little inlets. It reminds me so much of fun summer days spent at Girl Scout camp, and the water was really that "sparkly" today. Picture-perfect!

The lake was named for Herb Parsons, who was an expert marksman and hunter, even spending time as a showman trapshooter and also as a gunnery instructor during WWII. My son found this very interesting, as we have been visiting this lake since he was tiny, and he is now an expert marksman (trap) himself.

Picnic on the lake. What's not to love about that?

I didn't know about Herb Parson's Lake but I'll have to visit it this summer and see about dipping in my toes (not the whole me).

Gorgeous shimmering lake. What a nice blog you've put together. Maggie put a smile on my face :), love sweet Miss Daisy's photo and how that Germantown commissary looks, the keeping watch angel, and I could go on and on...

Cheers!

I love it! Especially the sparkles! We do have a river and at the university there is a lake, too, but somehow it's not as appealing.

Can you believe it's Thursday already? It's blustery over here in Norwich, but I hope you're having fun where you are!

Thanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and your kind comments. Drop by again!

I had no idea you could picnic at Herb Parsons. Haven't been there since I was a kid & been looking for a good place to introduce my son to fishing. Picnic & fishing...this will be a great place to start.
Thanks!!
