When people think of my city, they think of . .
...Elvis! I know...this one was almost too easy for me this month. I guessed that Elvis might be the most thought-of when it comes to Memphis...after all, the memory of Elvis is still iconic. (The statue above is on the western end of Beale Street).
But, I decided to ask some online friends near and far, and also long-distance contacts through work, what or whom first came to mind when they thought of Memphis, and by far most said "Elvis". But, some also made mention of Beale Street, the Peabody ducks, blues music, and barbeque. When I think of Memphis the lush gardens, warm and friendly people, and wonderful restaurants and traditions come to mind.
What do you think of when you think of Memphis?

Yes, you had an easier task than most!
Who or what else! I would have been disappointed if it turned out otherwise ;-0
All of the above! Hard to choose, but Elvis is a runaway #1. Nice post.
TCB!!
Port Angeles Daily Photo
You wouldn't believe the people who think he was from Nashville!
Elvis of course, who else?!
You had no other choice and I'm glad! Nice shot.
hehe... but of course!! and we love you for posting this one :)
The one and only! Great shot! I do think of the king when I think of your city. How many statues of him are there in your city?

Memphis = Blues for me, but Elvis is good, too.
i think of bluegrass music in general [for some reason the "Wabash Cannonball" is humming in my head]
I'm not running with the theme this month, but I hope folk will still drop by.
Of course! The King himself.
LOL !!
I came by your site to see this monument of Elvis ! You got it right, for me though.
Keep going !
Elvis? Who is that? HAHA, Great choice,
great :)
Naturally, I think of Elvis and "Love Me Tender," "Jailhouse Rock,"....
spot on!
you should have background music of Elvis for today's post! LOL
Happy Theme Day!
The King, of course!
As I was about to click on the link to your blog I thought "has to be Elvis"! Nice shot too!
Ah yes, The King!
Like many others the mention of Memphis bring Elvis to mind. Your task was most likely made easier by the numerous Elvis related monuments, memorabilia, and look-a-likes.
Elvis. Of course! But I didn't know that. Thanks for the education!!
Great one of the King! Have you ever been to Graceland?
Elvis and Graceland of course! :-)
Yes, I assumed it would be Elvis for Graceland. However, for me it is BBQ. Memphis dry rub ribs. yum yum! Great shot!
I do indeed think of Elvis. Nice choice for theme day!
You read my mind!
Perfect choice!
Had to be Elvis.
yup. I think Elvis as well :)
Yes Menphis = Elvis.
i have always loved elvis, and your photo of this statue is perfect for the theme day! that would've been my first choice... my second, probably not as popular, would be barbeque... when i've been to memphis i ate at a place called corky's barbeque and it was GREAT!
Yes it had to be The King. No doubt at all in my mind!
Of course Elvis! Would we associate Memphis with anything or anyone else?
yep...it's Elvis for me!!! and Graceland....nicely done.
The King...
Good Choice.

I was thinking Elvis too! (Between you and me, I was thinking BBQ too...Memphis style. I also think of the Memphis Belle, but that is now in Ohio, I believe .
Agreed!
Great choice! Although he was (or is) a native Mississippian. :)
Yes, that's what I'd think of!

Whenever I think of Memphis, I immediately think of Elvis. Must be because as a kid, way back in the 1960's (ouch that dates me), he was my hero. I still enjoy his music. Max
Sorry, I also immediately thought of Elvis...
He's quite an icon! great choice for the theme day! Good day!
Elvis, of course! Great singer. But there is also a musical line by Chuck Berry that comes often to my mind: «Long distance information, give me Menphis Tennessee...»
Do you know that ELVIS was the daughter of Guillaume de Brienne in the 13th century.
1.1.2.1.3.2.Guillaume de Brienne, d.ca 1200; m.Eustachie, Dame de Pacy (d.after 1235) dau.of Pierre de Courtenay
1.1.2.1.3.2.1.Andre de Brienne, d.ca 1215
1.1.2.1.3.2.2.Elvis de Brienne; m.Jean, Vcte de Saint-Florentin (d.ca 1235)
So Memphis and Brienne le Château are closer than we thought !
:) Elvis is certainly who/what I think of when I hear Memphis!
Andrea, I am going to look at as many of these as possible. I see several in Missouri..will be interesting to see their photos and perspectives.
Mud Island, because the last time we were in Memphis, we went there. Of course, Elvis, too...can't forget him, since he and my "famous musically inclined 2 year old grandson, share a birthday!":-)

The Zippin Pippin roller coaster at the old amusement park...YIKES!
Mid America Mall
New sandals that rubbed blisters on my feet.
Mud Island
Driving over the river just to say we'd been to Arkansas!
and Graceland...:)
I was 17, my sister and cousin were 15 and it was my first trip there.
No contest. It is Elvis, the Pelvis!
I didn't get around much on Theme Day but I still want to visit and send my regards. Great choice!!
i'll be honest. im not much of an elvis fan, so i didnt know that he's from memphis, but if i had even the vaguest hint about the same, then my answer too would have been elvis...

Thank you for your comment.
I guess I know this guy, Elvis ...
