When people think of my city, they think of . .

...Elvis! I know...this one was almost too easy for me this month. I guessed that Elvis might be the most thought-of when it comes to Memphis...after all, the memory of Elvis is still iconic. (The statue above is on the western end of Beale Street).

But, I decided to ask some online friends near and far, and also long-distance contacts through work, what or whom first came to mind when they thought of Memphis, and by far most said "Elvis". But, some also made mention of Beale Street, the Peabody ducks, blues music, and barbeque. When I think of Memphis the lush gardens, warm and friendly people, and wonderful restaurants and traditions come to mind.

What do you think of when you think of Memphis?

i think of bluegrass music in general [for some reason the "Wabash Cannonball" is humming in my head]

I'm not running with the theme this month, but I hope folk will still drop by.

Like many others the mention of Memphis bring Elvis to mind. Your task was most likely made easier by the numerous Elvis related monuments, memorabilia, and look-a-likes.

Whenever I think of Memphis, I immediately think of Elvis. Must be because as a kid, way back in the 1960's (ouch that dates me), he was my hero. I still enjoy his music. Max

Lezard said...

Sorry, I also immediately thought of Elvis...

Elvis, of course! Great singer. But there is also a musical line by Chuck Berry that comes often to my mind: «Long distance information, give me Menphis Tennessee...»

Do you know that ELVIS was the daughter of Guillaume de Brienne in the 13th century.
1.1.2.1.3.2.Guillaume de Brienne, d.ca 1200; m.Eustachie, Dame de Pacy (d.after 1235) dau.of Pierre de Courtenay
1.1.2.1.3.2.1.Andre de Brienne, d.ca 1215
1.1.2.1.3.2.2.Elvis de Brienne; m.Jean, Vcte de Saint-Florentin (d.ca 1235)

So Memphis and Brienne le Château are closer than we thought !

Andrea, I am going to look at as many of these as possible. I see several in Missouri..will be interesting to see their photos and perspectives.

Mud Island, because the last time we were in Memphis, we went there. Of course, Elvis, too...can't forget him, since he and my "famous musically inclined 2 year old grandson, share a birthday!":-)
